Halima Bashir’s meeting with President Bush
This photograph is so powerful to me, especially after reading Halima’s story. This woman survived torture and gang rape for speaking out against an attack on Darfur to a group of school children. She remained completely wrapped in clothing as she still fears for her life.
Yet, here in the “free world”, she is able to have a discussion with the President of the United States.
A simple aesthetic to remind me that while things are hardly perfect, I am deeply grateful to have been born where I was.

This is something to remember when you think you’re having a bad day. Say a prayer for the people in Darfur.
